Metal Roof Rehab

Gacoflex Metal Roof systems provide seamless protection with a durable, flexible membrane. Gacoflex elastomeric systems for metal roofs are formulated to enhance and repair metal roof retrofit projects, as well as to protect new metal roofs.

With Gacoflex Metal Roof systems, common metal roof problems, such as leaks, acid-rain corrosion, buckling and thermal shock, are virtually eliminated. Gacoflex seamless protection eliminates common sources of leaks around fasteners and flashing. Combined with lightweight Polyfoam polyurethane insulation, Gacoflex Metal Roof systems have excellent weather ability, and offer significant thermal insulation and energy cost savings. The deck should have at least a ¼" (.6 cm) to the foot slope for drainage and avoid ponding water. Ponding water is defined as standing water in excess of 100 square feet (10 m2) or in excess of ½" (1.3 cm) deep or water that does not evaporate within 72 hours.

The Gacoflex elastomeric coating systems in this specification have moderate rate of water vapor transmission and are not recommended for use on cold storage or cryogenic structures. Such structures may have constant high water vapor drive causing long term accumulation of moisture in the insulation. Consult Gaco Western for vapor retardant systems to use on refrigerated structures.

The Specifier must choose one of the base coat/top coat combinations listed in the systems chart included. This choice is aided by the physical property listed in the back of this specification and the following descriptions of the coating systems.

A. Two Component Aromatic Urethane: Base coats include UB-64 series and UB-8380. These types of coatings offer the toughest and most durable base coats available. As base coats they offer excellent impact and abrasion resistance. This specification is intended only as a guide for the development of a project specification. The suitability of this specification for a particular project must be determined by a qualified representative of the owner. Elements of this specification may require modification in order to clearly delineate project requirements. Sections that are not pertinent may be deleted.

B. GacoSil S-10 silicone coating is specified as a top coat over UB-64 or UB-8380. This specification is intended only as a guide for the development of a project specification. A qualified representative of the owner must determine the suitability of this specification for a particular project. Elements of this specification may require modification to clearly delineate project requirements. Sections that are not pertinent may be deleted. A. This specification provides a waterproof, weather resistant, color-stable, acrylic elastomeric membrane for renovation of metal roofs of all types and shapes. Gacoflex A-32 series, along with primer and joint treatment, provides excellent protection for metal roofs, by effectively sealing seams and fastener penetrations, renewing the overall finish, and extending the life of the roof. B. Gacoflex A-3200 White will reflect ultraviolet rays. Without Gacoflex A-3200 White coating, this ultraviolet radiation is absorbed and turned to heat. The reflectivity of Gacoflex A-3200 will keep roof temperatures cooler, and decrease demand on air conditioning equipment.

C. Suitable surfaces to receive the system include steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, copper and prefinished metal (other than siliconzed finishes). The system is designed to renew an existing finish or add a high performance finish to bare metal. This specification provides for a fire resistant roof covering system which meets Class A non combustible deck requirements under ASTM E-108/UL 790. It is specifically designed to renovate existing metal roofing with a seamless, elastomeric coating applied over sprayed foam insulation. Gaco Western Polyfoam, along with one of the elastomeric coating systems listed will provide excellent protection for metal roofs, effectively sealing seams and fastener penetrations while insulating the roof with the most efficient insulation material available today. Sprayed in place polyurethane foam is applied at a desired thickness (1" (3 cm) minimum) to fulfill thermal insulation requirements and to provide seamless monolithic surface over a variety of roof designs, shapes, and draining slopes. Gacoflex elastomeric coatings provide the necessary flexibility, toughness and weather resistance for long-term protection of the foam insulation. The system is designed to achieve a uniform coating thickness over the urethane foam insulation which may have a slightly textured finish.
